 Email Netiquette

Email can be a very effective form of communication. Because it is electronic, and not handwritten, it can be processed and accepted in a quick and easy manner. Therefore, the turnaround time for an email is much faster when comparing it to a paper document.  This also makes documents easier to edit and make changes as needed.

Since email is only expressed in words, it is important to pay attention to exactly what you are writing. You do not need to spend as much time proofreading and formatting as you would on a regular letter, but you must be sure to get your point across using appropriate context and wording. Formatting may come across differently on your screen than the receiver, so this is not as important. But if you type something out in a different tone than you are actually thinking, this could create a problem.

When writing an email, you can be brief and to the point of what you are trying to say. You do not need to be very formal, but it is also not good to have mistakes and errors. When you get to the point of what you need to say right away, it increases the effectiveness and already fast communication of email. Responses can be written quickly and you may hear back within hours, or even minutes, of sending your initial email.

Because the turnaround time on emails is very fast, more communication can get done in a short amount of time. Letters do not have to travel through the post office, and trips do not need to be made to visit other people. Email messages are sent instantly and can be read as soon as they are sent.

In conclusion, email is an effective form of communication that is becoming more and more popular with the spread of the Internet. Emails are quick, easy, and to the point of what needs to be said, and they can save a lot of time and convey excellent information.
